Old Girl Finally Gives Up Her Post In The Feed Shed For A Graceful Retirement
She arrived 17 years ago with her three sisters and is the sole survivor of that group, with those three dying of old age. Well, she may have been a feral cat when she came but she certainly isn’t now. Having tutored the younger ferals in their duties in the feed shed she finally decided this winter to relinquish her duties at the age of around, we think, twenty-one. And who can blame her. So now, Old Girl as she is affectionately know by all, is second in command in Jan’s bedroom, the first being Puppa the dog also pretty old at seventeen. Old Girl lives in the bedroom permanently; Puppa does not still doing her rounds of the fields and the yard. Old Girl has a new bed, lots of special food and, of course, the necessary tray. She has never looked back and seems totally content in her new accommodation. We wish her a very comfortable and contented retirement.
When Little, Little Little, Dawn and Daisy’s owner had to move they asked the Sanctuary to take these four pet sheep. They arrived from Gloucestershire three weeks back. They were accompanied by a hen who also needed a new home. The Boys, both dark brown, are seven years old and the Girls twelve. The sheep live with some of our more sedate residents in one of the smaller paddocks and have settled well, and the hen has her own accommodation in the yard being out during the day. She has found her way around the yard and barns and seems to have developed a friendship with Lok the Polish Rooster.
Carols In The Barn
This year will be held on Saturday 13th December from 2 – 4:30pm. Festive vegetarian and vegan refreshments will be on offer. Admission is Adults £2, Children £1 and Under 8’s free. Make it a date in your diary. Spend a pleasant afternoon with the rescued animals and, of course, joining in with the carols is obligatory whether you can sing in tune or not, the sheep won’t mind.
