Buster was seven years old when his owner passed away unexpectedly. Years earlier, this man had resolved not to send his animals to slaughter; instead, he chose to keep them, not quite as pets but as creatures deserving of a peaceful life.
Following his death, the court ordered that his cattle be sold to settle his debts. Friends of the farmer, who understood his deep bond with his animals, implored the court to allow the cattle to live.
Although their plea was denied, the court agreed that one animal could be saved and placed in a safe home. Buster was chosen. Known for his endearing habit of following his owner around the farm like a large, affectionate dog, he was now given a chance for a new life.
Buster, now a big, gentle lad, quickly formed a bond with Jacqueline. Together, they seem to have embraced the role of guardians for the rest of the herd, managing the “naughty children” with care.
Alfie, another of the farmer’s animals, had been raised as a large pet. Friendly and confident, he had never experienced harsh treatment.
However, due to a change in circumstances, Alfie faced the grim prospect of either finding a new home or facing the journey to the abattoir. Fortunately, he settled in immediately with the lively Jersey boys and has thrived in his new environment.
