Fred was bred from high-class, expensive eventing stock, and much was expected of him. He grew into a big, handsome horse trained for eventing, and he made it to the top, tackling the massive Badminton fences. While he never won Badminton, he was always well-placed and was renowned for his bravery.
As he aged, his joints began to show signs of wear and tear, leading to his retirement. Due to his kind and calm temperament, he took on the role of nanny to some valuable foals—a job that seemed to suit him perfectly.
After a few years, Fred’s owner had to downsize and no longer had room for him. He needed a new home or he would face the prospect of being put down. Luckily, we had a space just right for Fred, and he more than deserved to live out the rest of his life in peace and quiet. He had certainly earned it.
Joel, meanwhile, had been a much-loved pet until his owner could no longer care for him due to a change in circumstances. He had everything he could ever ask for and was very well cared for, but his owner was deeply upset to let him go and wanted to find a safe, forever home for him.
Now, Joel and Fred have become the best of friends—a true bromance!
