In March 2022, we received a call about a ewe who had become stuck upside down in a field. Heavily pregnant and in distress, she had been helped back onto her feet by a concerned passer-by who feared for both her health and that of her unborn lamb. The passer-by contacted the farmer, who, after much persuasion, agreed to let the ewe and her lamb come to the sanctuary.
He also mentioned another ewe who had been attacked by a dog some time ago. This ewe had lost an ear and had a permanent limp due to an injury sustained during the attack. The farmer intended to send her for slaughter once her lamb was weaned, but he was willing to let us take both her and her lamb as well.
So, in early April, the two ewes and their lambs arrived at the sanctuary. The rescuers had named them Clover and Faith, and Hope and April. Both ewes are exceptional mothers, and now that they are here, they will never be separated from their lambs.
The lambs are cheeky and inquisitive, and it’s a joy to see them bouncing around the paddock. They will never know fear or cruelty and have a long, happy life ahead of them.
