The Most Unusual Find on the M42? An Unconscious Pig! Late on a Wednesday afternoon, a motorist spotted an unusual object on the hard shoulder of the M42. To their astonishment, it was a young boar, unconscious and badly bruised.
Local council workers from a nearby depot carefully loaded the injured pig into their van and returned to their base.
A vet was called to assess the boar, who was in a dire state. It was determined that the pig had likely fallen from a trailer or some kind of vehicle. He was severely cut and bruised, suffering from a severe concussion and shock.
The prognosis was uncertain, and it was decided that the best course of action was to let him rest in the van overnight to avoid further distress.
Meanwhile, the RSPCA reached out to several sanctuaries. Since Mr. Pig did not have any ear tags or tattoos—both legal requirements—his ownership was untraceable, making it crucial to find him a home quickly. Fortunately, we were the only ones who responded that evening.
The next morning, after being reassessed as fit to travel, the pig was brought to us. We managed to provide him with a small enclosure, complete with his own room and patio area, where Percy could recuperate.
Though we may never know Percy’s full story—whether he had been stolen and was on his way to an unregulated slaughterhouse—the important thing is that he is safe now. He has made a remarkable recovery from his ordeal.
Far from the subdued pig we first encountered, Percy now bounds across his paddock each morning, greeting us with enthusiastic grunts and squeals as he eagerly awaits his breakfast.
