Pickles

Pickles the sow arrived all the way from Herne Bay, a very long journey for a pig. Pigs can become quite stressed when asked to move, particularly when transported in a noisy, bumpy vehicle.

Yet, Pickles disembarked from the trailer with remarkable calmness. She followed a small trail of bread, apples, and carrots into her new bedroom and promptly went to sleep—a very well-behaved lady indeed.

Previously a breeding sow, Pickles had recently weaned her last litter of piglets and was considered past her prime. Her future seemed to be heading towards a final and inevitable end.

Fortunately, at the farm where Pickles had lived, people had the opportunity to visit her in her sty. She soon recognised them as friends and greeted their visits with welcoming grunts.

Luckily for Pickles, someone had grown so attached to her that they organised fundraising events to cover the cost of buying and transporting her.

As Pickles had become a bit of a favourite, her owner was more than pleased to know she was heading towards a well-deserved retirement.
