Queenie arrived with us in 2017, having suffered from a severely infected leg that rendered it entirely unusable. We immediately called our vet, who started her on an aggressive course of antibiotics to combat the infection, alongside painkillers.
She must have been in immense discomfort, yet she never complained. It was as though she had endured the pain for so long that it had become her norm.
Unfortunately, it became clear that the infection had been untreated for far too long, and our efforts to manage it were futile.
The only option left to save her life was to amputate the leg to prevent the infection from spreading further and to relieve her of her pain. Queenie coped remarkably well with both the surgery and the recovery process.
Her resilience and strong, independent nature shone through; losing a leg hasn’t slowed her down one bit! She stays close to home so we can monitor her closely, and in her paddock, she has everything she needs within easy reach—after all, she is a Queen!
