Tiny Tim arrived in January 2021, having been found on a snowy winter’s day, looking a little worse for wear. His kind rescuers picked him up from the roadside and brought him to us.
He was missing feathers on his head, wasn’t waterproof, and waddled around like a drunken sailor. He didn’t seem to understand much about anything, so he lived in our feed room under a heat lamp while he recovered.
A few weeks later, Mrs Duck arrived. She was a much-loved pet who had survived an attack by a bird of prey that killed her two companions and left her injured. Her owners, fearing for her safety, brought her to us in the hope of finding her a new companion and a safe place to live out the rest of her days.
Mrs Duck joined Tiny Tim in the feed room while she recovered from her ordeal. Both appeared agoraphobic, traumatised by their experiences, and found comfort and safety in the feed room.
However, Mrs Duck soon grew in confidence and took Tim under her wing—literally. She led him into the great outdoors, showing him that having a bath in a shallow container wasn’t dangerous. Tim’s feathers grew back, he became waterproof, and he grew in stature, if not in size.
Now, the two of them waddle happily around the yard and even venture out into the paddocks from time to time—a true match made in heaven.
