As Christmas approaches, we reflect on another year that’s given our animals the peace they deserve – no more hunger, no fear, no waking up unsure of where they are.
When farmed animals, once raised solely for production, finally experience safety, their personalities blossom.
Like the scruffy little ex-battery hen who now chases off any cat daring to approach her corn, or the once-abandoned lamb, now a 50 kg bundle of spirit and strength, they embrace their new lives with a sense of ease and joy.
Many of you will have met our beloved donkeys, Clive and Ernie. When they first arrived at the sanctuary, they were very nervous, having never been shown the love and affection they deserved.
Their teeth were in very poor condition and may never have been treated; both had high worm burdens and were simply unsure of humans.
We allowed them time to settle in, had their teeth treated by the vet, and addressed their worms. They soon began to thrive and trust us—it’s incredible what a bit of TLC can do.
They are now the friendliest donkeys you could meet and are certainly the voices of the sanctuary!
There’s never a quiet moment with their brays; as soon as they see people, off they go! Their story is a wonderful reminder of how patience and love can change a life.
This Christmas marks Tony’s first with us, and it already feels like he’s been here forever. He’s settled in so well, greeting each day with boundless enthusiasm. He’s grown fond of breakfast, dinner, and every moment in between. His joy is infectious, and we’re thrilled he now has a life free from worry.
Seeing Tony’s excitement is a testament to the sanctuary’s mission—to offer love, safety, and comfort to every animal that comes through our gates.
Knowing he’s safe and happy this Christmas fills us with pride and gratitude.
As we come to the end of 2024, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our supporters—our wonderful donors, dedicated volunteers, and generous partners.
