Christmas is creeping up on us, and the festive season is truly making its presence felt here at The Farm Animal Sanctuary.
Last week’s snowfall transformed the sanctuary into a breathtaking winter wonderland. Snow blanketed every surface, creating a serene, picture-perfect scene that felt almost magical.
Our animals seemed just as surprised and delighted by the snow as we were! The cows had a blast frolicking through the white drifts, the pigs eagerly dug through the snow in search of treasures, and the sheep enjoyed a peaceful lounge, seemingly unbothered by the chill. Meanwhile, our more cautious turkeys and chickens decided that the warm safety of their coops was a much better option, eyeing the snowy landscape with clear skepticism! It was a day filled with nature’s beauty and the simple joy of animals experiencing something new.
Of course, as is often the case, the snow was followed by the inevitable floods.
By now, we’ve become quite adept at handling these challenges, and our animals have proven themselves to be just as resilient!
Thankfully, the sun has been making an appearance too, offering welcome moments of warmth and brightness amidst the wintery weather.
With the cold settling in, we’ve brought the sheep and cows into their cosy barns, where they’re happily munching on the best hay and enjoying their favourite licks. It’s always a comfort to know they’re warm, dry, and well-fed during these chilly months.
What an incredible day we had at our Christmas Fair!
Despite Storm Bert making an appearance, over 350 wonderful visitors braved the weather to join us, filling the sanctuary with festive cheer and warmth.
It was heartening to hear such lovely feedback from so many of you, and we’re deeply grateful for your support and appreciation of the hard work that went into making the event a success. Our donkeys, sheep, and even the cows loved all the extra attention and were delighted to meet so many friendly faces.
The fair was the perfect way to close out our events for 2024, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with how it all came together. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for making it such a special day. Here’s to more wonderful events in the future!
Early one frosty morning, a loyal supporter brought us a tiny, frail sheep in need of urgent care.
Cold, hungry, and weak, the little one was immediately placed in a warm stable and given some nutritious hay and lamb pellets.
After a check-up by our vet, we learned he has worms and contracted tendons, making his front legs stiff and sore. Treatment has started, and his physiotherapy will soon follow.
Despite his tough start, Barney is a bright and spirited little lamb who has settled in beautifully.
We’re keeping everything crossed for him, and we’re so relieved he’s now safe and surrounded by love.
Here at the sanctuary, our mission to care for our animals remains steadfast, no matter the challenges.
Whether it’s snow, rain, or unexpected rescues, we’re dedicated to keeping our furry and feathered friends warm, happy, and healthy this winter.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us!
The 2025 Calendar has arrived! This beautiful edition showcases 11 stunning photographs of our beloved rescued residents, with a unique twist for December that we absolutely adore.
