February 2025:
Rescued Hens, Bonded Friends & Thriving Animals

From Rescue to Retirement: February’s Heartwarming Stories

February has started off as a busy month, but with the evenings getting lighter and the first hints of spring in the air, there’s a renewed sense of energy at the Sanctuary.

Whether it’s a rescued hen experiencing freedom for the first time, a tiny lamb finding safety, or lifelong friends enjoying the simple pleasures of a winter morning, life at the Sanctuary is about peace, love, and second chances.

As we move through February, we look forward to more moments like these—filled with joy, rescue, and the promise of a brighter future for every animal in our care.

A Lifeline for White Leghorns

We’re honoured to be supporting our friends at FPC Poultry Rescue in their first rescue of 2025, helping to save a group of beautiful ex-commercial White Leghorn hens from slaughter.

These girls, now 72 weeks old, are no longer considered profitable in the commercial trade, but they still have so much life ahead of them.

On 15th February, they’ll be making their way to safety, joining other rescues in their journey to a well-deserved retirement. With warmer days approaching, we can’t wait to see them dust-bathing, sunbathing, and finally living the peaceful, happy lives they deserve.

Thumbelina Finds Her Perfect Match

A warm welcome to Thumbelina, the newest addition to our Sanctuary family. Due to a change in circumstances, she found herself in need of a new home—just as we were looking to fill a gap in ours.

After losing our beloved Fred, Joel was left alone. Now, he has two wonderful companions, Salt and Pepper, but that still left Mr Bean without a friend. Enter Thumbelina. Within just a few hours, the two had already formed a beautiful bond, and we couldn’t be happier to see them together. It truly feels like it was meant to be.

Meet Bobby and Bonnie: A Second Chance at Life

Recently, we welcomed two tiny new arrivals – adorable lambs Bobby and Bonnie. Found abandoned in a field at just one week old, their chances of survival without their mothers were slim.

Thankfully, their compassionate rescuers reached out to the farmer, who was more than happy to let them go to a safe home.

Now, instead of struggling for survival, these two will grow up in a warm, loving environment, where they can play, explore, and enjoy a carefree life.

Louise & Buster: The Sweetest Friendship

Meanwhile, Louise and her best buddy, Big Buster, have been making the most of their winter routine – enjoying their daily mineral lick together.

These essential supplements help keep our cows healthy while they’re on a hay diet, alongside their morning fruit and veggie treats.

Watching them share a moment of pure contentment is a reminder of how special sanctuary life truly is.
