January 2026: A Fresh Start, Frosty Mornings & Full Bellies

Happy New Year from all of us at The Farm Animal Sanctuary!
We're starting 2026 with smiles on our faces – because for the first time ever, we officially own the sanctuary.
And we couldn't have done it without you.

🎉 A New Year, A Forever Home

We’re kicking off 2026 with something to celebrate – Manor Orchard Farm is officially ours!

After years of fundraising, challenges and your incredible support, we now own the sanctuary for the first time in its history. No more uncertainty.

No more lease worries. Just a secure, permanent home for over 600 rescued animals.

Thank you for making this happen.

Every donation, every share, every bit of support brought us here

But our work isn’t over.

We now need to keep our animals safe, secure, and thriving in their forever home.

Your support will help us settle in over six hundred rescued farm animals, care for older residents who need special attention, and ensure Manor Orchard Farm remains a sanctuary for years to come.

Sheep Hay 2026

❄️ Frosty Mornings at the Farm

January brought some seriously cold weather – we hit -5°C! But our animals took it all in their stride.

Twiglet had a brilliant time playing with huge chunks of ice, while the cows, sheep and goats were perfectly content filling their bellies with hay and snuggling down on deep straw beds.

The frosty weather does present extra challenges though – frozen water pipes being the main issue.

On top of our usual tasks, we’re transporting substantial amounts of water to all the animals and making sure their beds are topped up with plenty of straw to keep everyone warm and comfortable.

🌾 Keeping 600+ Mouths Fed

Winter is our most expensive time of year, and we’ve started 2026 with a real need for hay and straw.

Here’s a glimpse into what we go through in a single week:

  • 10 big square bales of hay – £80 per bale (£800)
  • 5 round straw bales – £38 per bale (£190)
  • 2 silage bales – £65 each (£130)
  • 9 lick nutrition buckets – £28 each (£252)

That’s over £1,370 per week just to keep everyone fed and warm.

We do our best to keep costs low, but there are some things we simply can’t compromise on – and that’s making sure our animals have full bellies.

🥕 Thank You for Your Food Donations

A huge thank you to our local supporters who’ve kept the donations flowing!

The cows and sheep have enjoyed plenty of cauliflowers, carrots and sprouts.

The goats have been absolutely thrilled with leftover Christmas trees (a firm favourite!).

And the pigs? They’ve been tucking into the world’s biggest pumpkins.

Your generosity makes such a difference – thank you!

🏆 Nominate Us for £1,000 – It Only Takes a Minute!

Please can you nominate us for the Movement for Good draw?

We’re in with a chance of receiving £1,000 – and your nomination really counts.

This is our most expensive time of the year, with over 600 mouths to feed. £1,000 would make a real difference to what we’re able to do.

The more nominations we get, the greater our chance of winning – so please spread the word!

Our charity number is: 1215249

😴 Tony's Taking It Easy

After the Christmas rush, normality has set back in – and no one’s enjoying it more than Tony.

He’s been making the most of his downtime, relaxing in his perfectly arranged deep straw bed.

We hope your January has been as chilled out as his!
