NEWS - October 2014

September Has Been A Busy Month, first of all there was the VIVA! photo shoot.

Animal welfare campaigning charity VIVA! are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year and asked if they could come to the Sanctuary to shoot photos of some of their merchandise for their catalogue. So we said yes. Both VIVA! and the animals behaved perfectly with Barry our PR sheep, Rambo who never misses anything that goes on and Georgina the pig being the star performers. Lilly the Shetland Pony got into the act with model Victoria Eisermann, one of the founders of K9 Angels, and last year’s orphaned sheep headed by Dean backed up Barry on the PR front. The weather was perfect, the hens didn’t disgrace themselves over the T-shirts and no one ran off with any of VIVA!’s picnic. Photographer Shirlaine Forrest was patient and kind with the animals and birds as were all the team. Thank you VIVA! we know you enjoyed your day as did we.

Then Came World Day For Farmed Animals

Another day of wonderful summer weather which all our visitors enjoyed with the animals and birds in the peace of the Sanctuary. Meeting and greeting were Barry, Rambo and Tilly the Basset. Well, Tilly was really meeting and definitely greeting any yummies that just happened to drop into her path. The hens in the top yard did very well for goodies too thanks to Maggie’s wonderful refreshments. Rosie and Georgina the pigs had a feast of apples brought by their rescuers whilst Beatrice the Alsatian chilled out in the shade of the barn. Thank you to Everyone who came and who helped raise just under £800 for our funds.

Thank You Josie

Our vet for setting up and running an account on EBay to help raise funds. It’s proving popular and successful.

Have You Any Unwanted Jewellery?

If so please pop it in an envelope and send it to me, Bridget, at the Sanctuary and help to swell our funds.

Thank you, Bridget x.
PS This is me when I was small.

Christmas Shopping?

Well, it’s that time of year again. It’s easy to shop on line isn’t it and even better still if you shop using Give As You Live on Every Click that raises funds for our winter feed. Please give it a try, thank you, Treacle x

Basil Strikes Again

Basil the cockerel may only be small but he is certainly a very active lad. His first love, Sooty, produced one chick who she absolutely adores, then fickle Basil ditched Sooty in favour of Tova, a new girl at the Sanctuary, who has produced 4 beautiful chicks. Like Sooty’s attractive offspring they all look more like Basil than their Mums. Who will be his next conquest? Watch this space.

Tova came to the Sanctuary when her owners’ health deteriorated and they became worried about what would happen to Tova and who would care for her. She loves her chicks and has settled very well indeed.

Calling All Tooth Fairies

Hi, I’m Rosie. Two weeks back I had 8 teeth removed and the rest polished up to a sparkling shine. That set Jan back by £470, phew! Of course I’m worth it. This is me in recovery at the vets. They were all so very kind and looked after me wonderfully. But I do need the Tooth Fairies to come and put some donations under my pillow please. The Fairies can do this by using the Every Click or Just Giving facility on our website or by sending a cheque made payable to the Farm Animal Sanctuary to me –

Thank you, Rosie x
