Autumn has arrived with full force, bringing a lot more rain than we expected.
In fact, the brook has burst its banks twice already – something we usually don’t see until the deep winter months.
Our fields are now waterlogged, and the grass is losing its nutrition earlier than normal. As a result, we’ve had to start feeding hay to our sheep and cows nearly a month ahead of schedule.
The tractor is already getting plenty of use, helping us stay on top of things.
This time of year is especially busy as we work hard to make sure all the animals are healthy and ready for winter.
From worming horses to vaccinating our sheep, there’s always plenty to do.
Speaking of sheep, we’ve been administering their Heptavac P vaccinations. While it’s a time-consuming and costly task, it’s essential to ensure they’re protected against disease.
Meanwhile, our eight alpacas have started their Vitamin D injections to prevent deficiencies during the darker months, as they aren’t naturally suited to our British climate.
We’re also getting the barns ready for our exciting upcoming event – the Spooky Sanctuary! We’re looking forward to welcoming families to the sanctuary, with plenty of activities planned. Despite the unpredictability of the weather, our hay is stacked, the straw store is full, and the feed bins are ready for whatever winter throws our way.
And in some good news, our rescue goats are thriving, blissfully unaware of the wet conditions. They’re happily munching on the willow leaves that are still green and low enough for them to reach.
We want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for your unwavering support. Your belief in the work we do makes it possible to care for these animals day in and day out.
Without incredible people like you, we couldn’t continue this vital work.
Together, we’re making a difference.
